Oakwood School is tremendously proud of teacher Melissa Berton and our students, alumni, faculty, and families for earning an Academy Award for their documentary short Period. End of Sentence. This film, as well as their non-profit organization, The Pad Project, has brought needed attention to the fight against cultural taboos around menstruation and the consequent deprivation of a woman’s basic human right to education.
This film also reminds us of a goal at the heart of an Oakwood education: not just to inspire students but to be inspired by them in return. Genuine reciprocity is at the heart of teaching and learning, and Period. End of Sentence. embodies that belief. We are grateful to everyone who made this project possible.
