Capital Adventures: Oakwood’s 4th Grade Explores Sacramento

After touching down in Sacramento, they explored the grand halls of the State Capitol Building and wandered the charming streets of Old Town. Lunch on the grassy slopes outside Sutter’s Fort set the stage for a fascinating tour of the historic settlement, where students made meaningful connections to the people and events they’ve been studying all year.

The California State Railroad Museum was a clear favorite, but the surprise of the day came with an unexpected visit to Governor Gavin Newsom’s office. The Governor welcomed students with personal stories from his childhood and thoughtful reflections on his role in public service—an inspiring moment that no one could have predicted!

The adventure continued at the Sacramento History Museum, where students tried their hand at gold panning and explored the inner workings of an old print shop. A well-earned dinner at Round Table Pizza brought the day to a cheerful close, and soon, the group was headed back to the airport—returning home with stories, insights, and memories to last a lifetime.
