Performing Arts Courses for All

We are excited to announce the following 4-week performing arts courses for students. And for the first time, several of these fun and enriching classes are also available to the grown-up members of the Oakwood Community—parents, guardians, grandparents, faculty, staff, alumni, and more!

  • Open to students and families from in AND outside of Oakwood.
  • Oakwood faculty and staff are eligible for a discount (scroll to the bottom for more information).
  • No experience required. All classes are designed for beginners.
  • All courses are virtual, each consisting of (1) 40-minute class, once a week, for 4 weeks.
  • All courses $162 (due at registration).
  • Tuition assistance is available for students. Please contact Pam Tiangco.
  • Low key, just for fun!
  • Click the grade/age level to register through SawyerTools. If you do not have a Sawyer account, you’ll be asked to create one (one-time only).
  • You’ll receive a reminder and link to join 30 minutes before the start of each class.

 

Beginning Guitar

Always wanted to learn to play guitar? Well, now is the perfect time! Greg Pajer has been working with Oakwood for many years and we are excited for him to offer this class. Greg is an accomplished professional guitar player and seasoned music educator. He’s excited to help you learn the techniques that’ll get you playing songs quickly. No experience required. Just bring your guitar and enjoy learning in a relaxed, low-pressure environment.

 

Beginning Hip-Hop Dance
Mondays, Feb 1–Feb 22, 2021

Learn Hip-Hop Dance from one of our incredible teachers, Ebonee Arielle! Ebonee first came to Oakwood during our Summer Program, and more recently, she’s been teaching for CYP. Not only is Ebonee a professional dancer and choreographer, she’s also an experienced educator who owns and runs a successful dance studio in Culver City. Ebonee’s energy is contagious and she knows how to get students learning, moving, and loving to dance.

 

Beginning Ukulele
Fridays, Feb 5–Feb 26, 2021

Just for Grown-Ups: 5:00pm-5:40pm

Those of you who have students in the instrumental program know what a great teacher David Fertello is! Growing up in Hawaii, David learned to play this joyful instrument and is excited to help you learn the techniques and chords that will get you playing songs quickly. No experience required. Just bring your Ukulele and enjoy learning in a relaxed, low pressure environment.

 

Beginning Latin Percussion
Fridays, Feb 5–Feb 26, 2021

Grades 3-5: 3:00pm-3:40pm

This is your chance to learn traditional Latin percussion styles and technique! Fausto Cuevas is a world class percussionist and music educator, and has an energy that makes you feel like you can do anything! He plays regularly with artists such as Stevie Wonder and Jennifer Lopez (among others) and has taught throughout the country including Berklee College of Music. Originally from Brownsville TX, Fausto is an expert in traditional Cuban music. No experience needed.
