The Kitchen Project: Transformation Underway

Following our earlier share of renderings showing what the new Oakwood Kitchen will look like, here’s a construction update showing what’s happened in the space…

Although most of our students have experienced teaching and learning remotely during this unusual school year, notable progress has been made on the secondary campus towards the creation of our new kitchen and community space. In the room that was classroom C, every floor, ceiling, and wall has been transformed—or removed altogether—to make way for what will be a dynamic and inviting space to gather.

Work transitioned from demo to build-out mode. Large-scale timber framing and cuts made into the floor give a sense of how the space will feel and function. When complete, the kitchen will support meal prep with state-of-the-art equipment and serve it efficiently in a bright, airy open-plan servery.

Meanwhile, new furniture and sitting areas are already coming into place outside the future kitchen. These pieces, manufactured in Los Angeles by the same company who outfitted new public spaces at Dodger Stadium, are sure to be enjoyed by all.  We look forward to the future connections students and faculty, visiting alumni, and friends make here at Oakwood secondary campus.

After over a year of planning, the Kitchen Project is scheduled to be completed in the Spring of 2021.

It will take the collective generosity of our community for this kitchen to become a reality. Please join us with a gift to this momentous project today!
