2019 Oakwood Athletics Awards

On June 5, Director of Athletics Steve Smith joined families and students in celebrating a historic year for Oakwood Athletics. In his opening remarks, Coach Smith expressed gratitude for a memorable and successful first year at Oakwood. The ceremony then began with 39 students receiving varsity letters. Honored next by Associate Director of Athletics Angel Hardy and teacher/coach Dave Smith were students who participated in 2 sports, 3 sports, and—in the case of juniors Avery ’20 and Emma ’20—a remarkable 4 sports this school year. Athletics Assistant Kathleen Swartz then presented 22 graduating seniors with plaques for having participated in varsity sports for all four years of high school.

This year, Oakwood was proud to have 23 students awarded All-League and/or All CIF recognition. Coach Smith presented each of these athletes with useful and good-looking mugs imprinted with the Oakwood Athletics logo. Next, Elle ’20 received a special gift for her achievements in golf as a CIF Finalist.

Three final awards were given at the end of the ceremony. Winning for Most Inspirational were Emma ’20, Kobe ’20, and Britt ’20. The High School Athletes of the Year went to Danny ’20, Ava ’20, and Aidan ’20. And finally, Brianna ’19 and Caleb ’19 were given the Most Outstanding Senior Athlete award for the 2019-2020 year.

Congratulations and thank you to ALL of our high school athletes, parents, and coaches for another year of excellence—GO GORILLAS!
