The Horizon Grand Prix, a science and engineering program in which students design and race hydrogen-powered RC cars, held its California State Finals on March 23 in Los Angeles. The twenty-team field included four Oakwood teams, whose remarkable results at the event continued Oakwood’s winning streak this season.
Oakwood’s teams dominated the competition, with our two high school teams finishing in 1st and 2nd place, and our two middle school teams placing 3rd and 5th. Oakwood teams also placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in Fuel Efficiency and won the Pit Crew award. In addition, our middle school team of Leo and Jordan won Rookies of the Year for finishing third in the race.
What’s next for the teams and S.T.E.A.M. Department Chair Marcos Arias? Following up on their success last year, they will again travel to the World Championship, which takes place on June 8th in Prague.
