In First Grade, the Universe Comes into Being

Each year, Oakwood’s first grade students go on a journey through the universe that is both a foundation for future learning and a window into personal growth. As teachers Jennifer Baum and Carly Purmort state in the video below, the idea of evolution can be unwieldy, but this concept is brought down in scale through conversations about the process of change. The question, “how did you begin your life?” inspires our first-graders to think about personal change and ignites a passion for learning about how the universe came into being.
